Room 9
Suite (size: 84,5m²) with two separate rooms (on two floors) with a living area with a davenport and sleeping area with a double-bed (king size) and a bathroom.
The art room 9
Clare Kenny has transformed the two floors of Room 9 into a dreamy suite that seems to be removed from time and the environment. This impression is created by a comprehensive staging that skillfully plays with light and shadow, with abstraction and realism, but also with poetry and not least a large portion of humour. If you look closely, you will recognize figures and objects in the lamps, curtains, cushions and tables. Mysterious human outlines, for example, or the artist's hand appear more or less clearly in different places. However, there are also forms that are reminiscent of extremely everyday objects: Kenny's functional sculptures include a cake tin or a pet bottle - sometimes as a table, sometimes as a lamp or as a carpet. Clare Kenny also pays homage to her English homeland's obsession with the Victorian era, whose style continues to be copied to this day as an expression of culture and grandeur, with playful and absurd details. Artistic casts of artificial hairpieces[1] can be found at the beginning and end of the staircase, as well as in the knobs, which elegantly hold back the various layers of curtains with cords. Kenny provided the two peep windows in the attic with an additional interior window - closed, they bathe the room in a mystical light, open, they offer a view over the rooftops of Basel.
